New Year's Resoutions

I realize that I am a little more than a week late for the New Year's Blogging, but I thought I would just go ahead and blog a week late.

New Year's Resolutions (NYRs) are something that I have always I have always felt a little iffy about. I don't agree with making a million NYRs. I can't speak for everyone, but I know that if I give myself ton of new rules I will soon break them.  The most common NYRs are too lose weight and to get rid of debt, and those are mighty big rules to place on oneself. I am strong believer that people should not take on these NYRs. I think that it would be much easier to make a NYR in which you hope to become healthier, or to watch your spending better. If you have the will-power to so, it is my belief that these NYRs, while being very similar, are much more effective than giving yourself a set rules you have to stick too. Without consequences too many people would be too tempted just break them, I mean, who would be there to scold them anyway.

And after that rant I will share my NYRs.

1. I will try not to have more than four knitting projects at once.
How I will do this: I currently have seven projects going. Two just need finishing, another I have decide I am unhappy with and I plan on just ripping it out completely

2. I want to become healthier
How I will do this: I will try to supplement my lost exercise, from the loss of PE with other things I can do. It is sad because I often have to schedule in exercise.

That is it. But then again I often give myself goals throughout the year so NYRs are not as important to me.

Christmas Baking

Hello All!! just kidding. I am pretty sure I have a total of one reader. But that is okay. I shall still share my posts with the blogging world!! As you can tell from the post title I have been baking up a storm.

Well actually, this year's baking feels as though I am taking a break. Usually we (mostly my mother and I, but my sister makes one type of cookie) make cookies to put in tins for our family and friends. Keep in mind that this adds up to about twenty tins of cookies. Each tin contains roughly two dozen assorted cookies. On top of all those cookies we bake cookies for our annual Christmas Eve Party. This all adds up to hundreds of cookies!!  This year, after a guilt trip from my sister for wanting to take the year off we are baking cookies just for the party. I wanted to share some pictures, but my hands were to covered in cookie dough to fathom taking any pics until I had just started the chocolate chip cookies. So here are some pictures of chocolate chip cookies in the works, as well as some finished double chocolate chip and powdered sugar balls.

And we are barely even started!! Merry Christmas!!

Cool Beans

Ooooh look at me, making another post before the week is out.  I think I just set a personal blogging record. It won't be long until I am posting several times a day! Okay not really. I don't really have the will power to keep up a blog like that, but most importantly I would not have anything good to say if I talked that much everyday. (In real life I actually do talk a lot).

I didn't really have a plan for this post, it just suddenly struck me as a good idea at nearly 11:00 at night.  But the idea has just come to me.  I was thinking of possibly starting another blog that would be more centered around knitting. I know that was one of the things I said was going to be in this blog, but if I do actually have any readers (which at this point I am doubting), specifically ones that want to read about knitting stuff, I understand if you don't want to shift through all of this other (rants) stuff.  So at this point in my young blogging career I am going to ask something of my readers (if you exist) to comment yay or nay at the idea of me creating another blog.  Or if you don't really care, you could tell me that you are here, reading my humble blog and that you don't really care if I take or leave the knitting stuff in this blog, but that you think I am a blogging genius and you would read every word I wrote even if it was in Russian.  Well you don't have to put that last genius part but I somewhat want to see who is reading my blog and what their blogs are like, even if they don't care, because I know that every last person on this earth has something that is worth saying. Okay I'm exaggerating. People like Hitler do not deserve to have their thoughts heard, thank God he is dead.  WOW, that got way off topic way fast.

I think I am done.

I really just ran out of steam... So please leave comments!!

Thank You Teachers

I love my teachers.

I'm lying.

I can't stand them right now. And when I say teachers I mean the history department. Arg!! They decided that our school's history day will be right after winter break. Here I am all innocently hoping I might actually have three weeks off in which to recuperate from this intense semester, knit to my heart's content and fry my brains with TV and internet (probably Ravelry.com) and reread all of my Harry Potter books.

But noooo, we have to do this HUGE project and turn it in right after break is over. And I love my group, but they want to do an exhibit. That is 6ft x 2ft of information and pictures that we need to come up with, that is after we choose a topic. I'm not ragging on history, in fact I love history, but when they force it upon us, and shove it down our throats, it makes my want to gag, figuratively of course.

Not only that but I am having surgery midway through break and I have been told that there in no way of knowing how long I will take to recover, it could be 24 hours or much longer if there are complications that leave me in pain. And I am afraid that it will cause me to desert my group if I can not even think due to the pain meds (I have no idea what they will give me or if I will need it).

On another no quite off topic note, I have a Chemistry final in my university class on Monday, so wish me luck, as I need at least an 80% to keep my grade from teetering of the edge of a B into a C.

And this really is off topic, I will be babysitting for one of my favorite clients. Mostly because her son is the oldest of all the kids I babysit (he is about 8) and he do a lot of things for himself ie. use the bathroom and recognize when he is hungry. And also because of the way she treats me. I can't exactly put my finger on it, but I think it is because she treats me as less of a child and more like an adult. I don't take very kindly to being treated as a child. I'm not really a child anymore, I will be able to watch R rated movies in the theaters within the next two months and I will be voting in the next Presidential Election.

But anyways, it is pushing midnight I should have probably gotten to bed about an hour ago...

Mail

I can't be absolutely sure about this, but I would have to say that most adults don't get nearly as excited about mail as I do. I'm not talking about those pamphlets that random colleges send us is hopes that we might think about attending their college. I'm talking about a piece of mail that has your name on it and is all yours. I get excited about mail from my dentist's office reminding me about my semi-annual appointment. But as you can see by the weather, it is getting very close to wintertime, which means one thing to me: Christmas. And this year I am trying to buy or make homemade items for my gifts. Which lead me to one of my favorite time-wasting web-sites, Esty.com. Since I have ordered several things online from Esty for my friends and family, I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of several packages in the mail, that have MY name on them. I can't imagine what would happen if they all came on the same day. Last time I got a package I was dancing around the house for at-least one day, possibly more.

Okay if I am going to be truthful, I just hope my parents don't read this, not all the packages arriving are presents for other people. I just ordered a bunch of yarn from Knit-Picks along with their Snow Day Ornament Knit and the Sock knitter's tool kit. I just may post pictures when everything arrives. The yarn I am buying is for a big roomy bag and some fingerless gloves. (NOTE: fingerless gloves not fingerless mittens, people get those mixed up all the time and it is incredibly annoying to me!!)

Changing my mind...maybe

Maybe, not. I don't know. It doesn't even look like anyone has looked at this stupid blog... not that I've actually made any posts at all. As for the whole college planning thing, that I defiantly take back, sorry if someone read this and was excited for it, because basically what I have learned in my weeks of College Planning is that the getting ready for college process is different for every person depending on a) where you want to go b)what high school you go to (rigorous or easy or something in b/w the two) c) what you want to do (if you even know) d) what state you live in e) and I hate to say it, but it is kind of true: how well you take tests.

This is where I contradict everything I just said and talk about colleges. Now if anyone is reading this you may or may not have agreed with the last statement. Trust me I wish it wasn't true. Because one of the biggest things that describes you is your SAT or ACT scores. Several people in my class have brought up the fact that taking tests are to measure intelligence is a little, well, biased. But how else is the college going to compare you to that guy across the country from you. You guys took different classes from different teachers who graded differently and had different curriculum based on different state standards.

I'm still not sure if I want to do this. I was thinking that maybe I will start a private blog about my life for my family to read when I go off to college so that they will know what is going on with me and stuff... so yeah... I don't know.

First Post

A little about me. My name is Heather. I am currently 16.  I guess you could call me smart, I go to one of the top 30 high schools in the country, which I got into after an application and interview, but I like math and science, so don't shoot me over my bad English. I have one younger sister. My parents divorced when I was six, Dad remarried when I was ten. And before you jump to any conclusions my step-mom is great and not anything like the one in Cinderella. I have four cats (two at each house) and a dog at my dad's house. I play tennis from time to time, but not anything serious really. And one of my greatest passions is knitting.

Um okay, blog. I was wonderfully inspired to create a blog over a year ago when I saw Julie and Julia with my grandma (we were actually inspired to make boeuf bourguignon as well which we went on to ***SPOILER ALERT*** overcook when we fell asleep, just like in the movie). Back on topic, blog. After making an account I thought to myself, what in the hell could I ever write about that anyone would be even slightly interested in? But now as school is about to start and I am going to be a junior, I knew I had my topic. Not following, good. That was not a very good transition, let me explain a little more. I am beginning to actually wrap my head around the idea that is college. I have always known that I would be going to college. It wasn't parent pressure or anything, just a natural succession in my head (elementary school to middle school to high school to college). But until now college was this thing that was way off in the distance like the Emerald City when Dorothy was just leaving Munchkin-land. And now it's this giant thing looming up overhead and I have it a lot worse than Dorothy. My path is splitting into a million different forks each one representing a college I could go to. But not only can I not just pick which path I want I have to apply to a bunch of paths that I want to take, paying for each application. And then after I am accepted I pick which path I am going to follow and pay no less than $20,000 (but probably more) per year for four years, and that is just for my bachelor's degree. My plan for this blog to take my readers, if I have any, on a journey through my journey  to college.  Along the way I will take you through what gets me through life: friends, family, school, and, of course, knitting.
